Dementia Training – Train Reaction
A specialist training course designed to support professionals caring for patients with dementia and the underlying diseases that cause it.
Who Dementia Training is For
This training course is primary designed to help educate staff working with and looking after patients living with dementia in healthcare, social care and community settings. It may also be suitable for some individuals or professionals working in charities or community settings with individuals suffering from dementia.
Dementia Training Course Overview
The Dementia training covers the following topics:
Understanding the nature of dementia
Knowing the symptoms of dementia and the assessments needed (specific to Learning Disabilities)
Appreciating the principles of person centred care and the key interventions
Understanding the principles of communicating effectively
The importance of utilising a range of social and recreational activities
Life story work
Understanding the nature of challenging behaviour and how to give positive behaviour support
The NICE guidelines for treatment of dementia including the place of medication
Dementia Course - Delivery and Duration
The dementia course is normally delivered via Zoom Webinar and provides 2.5 hours of interactive learning. In addition, the course includes 1.5 hours of independent study set by the trainer.
If required, the course can also be delivered in person, either in a classroom setting or at your service. The in-person training is delivered as a 4 hour course.
Assessment
Training includes immediate formative assessment via a test or scenario, and all attendees receive a certificate of completion upon successfully finishing the course.
